About

Hal Waite, MA Clinical Psychology

As a survivor of trauma, I felt compelled to study psychology, going on to earn a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University in 1998. After graduate school, I trained for three years with several leading experts in the trauma field becoming certified in Somatic Experiencing and EMDR. As a caring and compassionate person, I'm pleased to offer my skills to you. As the effects of trauma are cleared, you will develop the tools needed to be more successful in life and your relationships. Relationships demand we know a lot about ourselves; how to communicate, listen, observe, build trust, create intimacy and flexibility. I can teach you these essential tools, which will attract people to you who can support you and bring out the best in you.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative  approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR is a mental health intervention which uses a set of standardized protocols that incorporate what is known as bi-lateral stimulation. As a client during treatment, you will be asked about your thoughts, then be asked to either look at, listen to or feel signals both to your left and alternately to the right for a brief interval of time while noticing what thoughts, feelings or sensations are occurring.   This process aids the individual in reprocessing old trauma, which leads to a renewed sence of well being.

Originally trained in Marriage and Family therapy, I offer relationship support, which naturally is linked to most aspects of  life. As you are aware, all of our interactions with others, whether momentary, work related or longer term like friendships, relatives or  significant others, require that we communicate well.

As such there are many aspect of communication, which unless done thoughtfully can easily cause unwanted conflict and mis-understanding. For example, learning how to actively listen by nodding your head signals that you are listening. Using encouraging body language is important as well as repeating key concepts back afterwards acknowledges to the speaker that they are understood. These are just a few pieces of the communication matrix which feeds into the larger context of creating positive, supportive and loving relationships.
